Space the guttering away from the soffits so that it is not covered by the eaves of the roof or else the rain will be diverted elsewhere instead of where it belongs.
Gutter distance from roof edge.
The 3 would be the distance measured from the drip edge the point at which the water falls from the roof to the top of the gutter.
In fact in most places i was unable to get my fingers never mind my hand into the guttering to clear it.

Recent research shows placement of the outer gutter edge 3 4 below the roof plane on my 7 12 pitch roof.
And this way when the water comes down the roof it will drop from the shingle to the flashing to the gutter.
That said gutters need to be completely level from front to back or water could spill over either edge.
Since the gutters have to slope down towards the downspout this distance will increase as you get closer to the downspout.
Conventional fall protection guardrail fall restraint or fall arrest system is required.
The back edge of the gutter should tuck up behind the dripedge if you have it otherwise the edge of the shingles should extend well over the back half of the gutter so the drips cannot get behind it and rot the fascia board.
For rainy climates where gutters will handle a larger amount of water for long periods they should have a maximum distance of 18 inches apart between them.
Gutters should be hung where a straight edge laying on your roof shingles can easily extend over the front lip of the gutter this is the proper installment location for the high point of the gutter.
Looking right down the line of the guttering the gap between the end of the last roof tile and the outer edge of the guttering varies from around an inch and half to in some cases millimetres.
It s not uncommon for homeowners to hang the gutters so that the front edge is slumping forward too much.
Gutters should slope an inch or two for every 40 feet.
In almost every instance gutter installers take the path of least resistance and shove the gutter right underneath the roof shingles instead.
Between 6 feet and 15 feet from the edge.

Flashing installation installing a slide gutter flashing under the shingles and over the back edge of the gutter will prevent water from running behind your gutters which can cause your fascia to rot and deteriorate over time.
A secured designated area in lieu of conventional fall protection is acceptable as long as the work is both infrequent and temporary.
A normal gutter will have about 1 2 3 4 of its width sticking out beyond the shingles to catch the runoff.
